CEDTec is a center located in Design School from UEMG (State University of Minas Gerais, created in 2009 and formally approved in January 2010). It is coordinated by Rita de Castro Engler, PhD in Technology Innovation Management from Ecole Centrale Paris and Sebastiana Luiza Bragança Lana, PhD in Materials Engineering from University of Sheffield. Its goal is to train undergraduate and graduate students, and work with communities focusing in the triple bottom line:
Preserve the environment by the rational use of resources and energy, new materials, forest management, skills development, income generation for poor communities and sustainable economical development by the use of Design.
It has 2 main lines of researches: 1) social innovation that focus on cultural, socio-economical aspects, and sustainability and innovation management. These projects are developed in communities, usually with partnership with local authorities. Our goal is to educate a new brand of designers focusing on sustainable innovations inside organizations (NGOs, companies, labs, etc.) and its strategies are: a) stakeholders relations in sustainable process analysis; b) companies’ strategies and public polices aiming innovation analysis; c) sustainable innovation creation, development and implementation; d) cultural and territorial enhancement using design tools.
2) Development of new methods and process that contribute to reduce input consumption during the whole life cycle of the product, use of new material. Its strategies are: a) materials choices for better performance diagnosis; b) production processes diagnosis; c) Design & materials relations.
We aim to strength the practice of Design as a powerful ally to development of creative and sustainable communities.
In our team, we actually have the following researchers: Marcelina das Graças Almeida, Nadja Maria Mourão, Glauco Teixeira, Daniela Menezes Martins, Raquel Pereira Canaan, Teresa Campos Viana, Orlando Gama da Silva Junior, Barbara Dias Lage, Lucas Righi, Paula Soeiro, Felipe Lessa Sampaio, Renata Alves Dias, Alice Andrade Guimarães, Ana Carolina de Assis Ribeiro, Antonnione Franco Leone Ribeiro, Augusto Gomes Araujo, Carlos Magno Ferreira, Georges Machado Michailides, Isabella Pontello Bahia, Isadora Graciana da Mota Prado, Jessica Machado Marques, Lucas da Costa Petes, Luiz Gustavo Pereira, Diego Rocha, Diego Coelho David, Claudilene Neves, Leandro Rocha, Michelle Rezende Vieira, Viviane Melo, Polliana Grossi e Paulo Junqueira.
