DESIS Japan_ Preliminary Steps at the Destination 2022 Design for Sustainability Conference in Japan

The 5th International Conference of Design for Sustainability, also known as Destination 2010-2022, will be held on February 26 and 27, 2011 in Yamagata city, northern part of Japan. The theme for this year concern us all: Local Sustainable Community The conference will move from the fundamental idea that sustainability stands on local-based communities, and so, where there is community, there is life and there is industry running efficiently and with flexibility to adjust the surrounding changes. By focusing on the momentum of this rather under-rated topic of community, for the Japanese understanding and reality (given that in Japan, it would seem that the concept of community does not appear, since Japanese consider themselves as part of a whole family and thus, no community has been needed), the conference will reveal the inner potential of the concept of community within the sustainability perspective. In the framework of this conference an internal a DESIS Forum is also scheduled (Feb. the 27th) and some internal meetings with potential partners are to be organized in order to bring to light a new member of the network: DESIS Japan.
