Background:
O Núcleo de Abordagem Sistêmica do Design (NASDESIGN), design research laboratory of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, was officially founded in the year 2009. The research group seeks to conduct investigations and discussions about the systems approach to design in order to spread understanding of their new theoretical and practical dimensions. In it, the design is understood as a holistic process. So are studied issues related to social innovation, responsible design, creative communities and other aspects of sustainability.
Developing projects that enable the active exercise of the designer along with local productions in order to develop projects that result in systemic design development services, networking and interfaces, aiming at sustainability.
This group's strategy is to design systems approach because it shifts the focus of the product to the system of local production and considers the complex interactions carried out by communities, and considers it essential that the design aims to engage social actors in an active position, expression of identities and capacities, which is done with people in a co-creative process.
In this context, the designer researcher who goes to meet creative communities must also develop its side as a mediator of knowledge, aiming to encourage new kinds of habits and new learning.
Objective:
The objective of NAS DESIGN is proposing, at the end of their design process, system solutions that meet the needs of the community, promote the practice of local initiatives and, from a learning process too, allowing players to develop a social conscience sustainable.
The methodologies used by the laboratory from these communities are based on literature review, action research and systemic approach to strategy design. The first allows the knowledge of theoretical concepts in order to examine its applicability. The use of action research, in turn, is justified by the action of active designers and researchers within the community by obtaining tangible and intangible products of the action.
Primary Research Areas:
• Systems approach to design
• Creative Communities
• Traditional local Communities
• Design responsible
• Design sustainable
• Eco-design
• Sustainability
Among the main projects developed with the productive communities of Santa Catarina - there is the COLIMAR (attached) and the family farms of Alto Vale do Itajai.
