Background
DESIS Lab at Tsinghua was based on the Sustainable Design Research Institute of Art and Science Research Center, Tsinghua University, which was founded in the October 2010. In 2008, being the coordinator of China, Tsinghua had involved in a three years project LeNS (The Learning Network on Sustainability): Asian-European multi-polar network for curricula development on Design for Sustainability, focused on Product-Service System. LeNs is one of the large-scale cooperation projects between the international education institutions. It is also one of the Asia-Link research projects funded by European Union. The Politecnico di Milano in Italia conducts this project, with the participation of the Academy of Arts & Design Tsinghua University and other universities from Finland, Holland, India and Thailand. The objective of LeNS is to build an open online learning platform to vigorously facilitate the communications and cooperation between Asian and European universities in their research and teaching experience of DFS. In March of 2009, with the support of DESIS-International, Tsinghua University becomes one of the funding members of DESIS-China Network together with other five leading design schools in China. At present, we are working on the establishment of LeNS-China (www.lens-china.org).
