DESIS-USA is the American Chapter of the DESIS network.
Our Mission
We are a group of faculty and researchers who established research labs in different cities around the United States to promote the use of design for social innovation towards sustainability.
Our Goals
We support the DESIS vision in the United States and our goals are focused to promote a more sustainable future in our cities, region and around the world, in a twofold way:
1) To use design to help catalyze social resources for positive, sustainable change, and
2) To prepare a new generation of transdisciplinary designers in the practice of social innovation through design.
Our Approach
• We are interested in using design to catalyze systemic change.
• We want to identify, nurture, and learn from successful social innovations within our communities and cities.
• We use co-design tools and processes that enhance the viability and effectiveness of local social innovations and seek to replicate successes through partnerships and networks.
• We develop toolkits to collect case studies, projects and organize local events.
